The Many Adventures of 22 States in 73 Days

Dennis and Janice Marquardt have traveled to twenty-two states in 73 days totaling 8,100 miles in their 2017 37 AP Allegro Bus during the summer of 2023. They began their adventures on June 1st and completed their journey in early August.

After leaving their home, they traveled to Oklahoma to visit their grandson and family along with their two great grandchildren. After visiting with them for a few days, they traveled to Lake of the Ozarks, where they stayed at a military campsite for several days and got to explore an underground cave while there.

From the Lake of the Ozarks, Dennis and Janice traveled to the Warm Springs Ranch in Missouri where they got a tour and visited the Clydesdale horses, including some of the babies that are raised there.

Their next pit stop took them to Amana, Iowa where they attended the Tiffin Allegro Club Rally in June where they spend about a week there and even got to take in some of the festivities going on in the town of Amana! From Amana, they drove to Minneapolis and again visited family, including daughter, son-in-law and two grandchildren. While their son-in-law doing was attending to part-time farm work, they got to help one afternoon with the milking of a few dairy cows and even bottle fed a new born calf.

From Minneapolis, they traveled to Cincinnati, OH to visit close cruise travel friends! They stayed at the FMCA park which they described as quite convenient and efficient, low cost. While there they visited the Wright-Patterson Air Force Museum in Dayton, Ohio which they express is a tremendous air museum and highly recommend others to visit!

Next stop: Niagara Falls, NY! They visited the Falls for a few days, including the Maid of Mist boat tour before they took off to Maine. They visited a cousin in Camden, ME for a few days, staying at a great RV park (Megunticook) just outside of Camden and on a large bay of the Atlantic. The owners of the park had a few of their own lobster traps and cooked them a very nice, fresh lobster dinner that Saturday night! They then traveled to Bar Harbor, Maine and visited Acadia National Park. Again, a place they say is not to miss!

From Dennis and Janice’s stop in Maine, they traveled to Gettysburg, PA and visited the Gettysburg battle field which they found very impressive. From Gettysburg they shot over to Williamsburg, Virginia visiting the old town of Williamsburg and then toured St. Johns Island where the first settlers settled. They state that it was an interesting experience to learn about that settlement and the fact that nearly 75% of the settlement perished during the Winter of 1610.

Winding down, they traveled to Springhill Tennessee to visit Janice’s high school classmates. After a nice visit with old friends, they drove to Forsyth, Georgia to visit another daughter. During this visit they were able to have lunch at the Fried Green Tomatoes café that was made famous by the movie of the same name!

About the 1st of August it started to get quite warm for them, but with the 3 A/C’s in their Bus, they had no problem!

From Georgia they continued on to visit a grandson in Houston, Texas for a few days; then on to Tucson, Arizona to visit Janice’s mother who had just turned 101 (now102)!!! On their final stretch back home, they had officially completed a 22-state visit, with 8100 miles, in 73 days. They had lots of good fun in their Tiffin Bus and checked off many adventures on their journey during the summer of 2023!
