For more than five decades, Tiffin Motorhomes has been a name synonymous with quality craftsmanship, customer service, and innovation in the RV industry. From humble beginnings in Red Bay, Alabama, to becoming one of the most respected motorhome manufacturers in North America, Tiffin’s story is one of perseverance, family values, and a relentless commitment to doing things the right way.

The roots of Tiffin Motorhomes trace back to the early 1970s, when a small RV manufacturer called Sunliner Motor Homes declared bankruptcy in nearby Tremont, Mississippi. While many overlooked the opportunity, Bob Tiffin saw potential. In the winter of 1972, the very first Allegro motorhome rolled out in Red Bay, Alabama — marking the beginning of what would become one of the most recognizable names in the RV world.
From day one, Bob Tiffin established a simple philosophy: build the highest-quality motorhome possible at the best value, and stand behind every product with unmatched customer service. That philosophy became the foundation of the company and continues to guide Tiffin today.
Despite the challenges of the 1970s — including oil embargoes, fuel shortages, and supplier disruptions — Tiffin continued to grow production and expand facilities throughout the decade.

The 1980s marked a period of rapid innovation and growth for Tiffin Motorhomes. The company introduced the Allegro Pusher, a basement-model diesel motorhome that helped redefine RV storage and functionality. Tiffin also pioneered several industry-first features, including a modified automotive dash and the first driver’s side door on a competitively priced motorhome.
By the middle of the decade, production had grown to ten units per day, and the next generation of leadership — Tim and Van Tiffin — joined the company to help drive continued expansion and innovation.

Tiffin continued to push boundaries throughout the 1990s. The company introduced domed rubber roofs, an innovation that provided improved durability and interior storage space.
In 1992, Tiffin launched its first slide-out motorhome, permanently changing the RV market by dramatically increasing interior living space. Just five years later, Tiffin debuted the industry’s first triple-slide motorhome, once again leading the way in innovation.
This decade also saw the rise of some of Tiffin’s most iconic models, including the Allegro Bus, Zephyr, and Phaeton — coaches that helped establish the brand as a premium name in luxury diesel pushers.
In recognition of his impact on the industry, Bob Tiffin was inducted into the RV Industry Association Hall of Fame in 1999.

As the company entered the 2000s, Tiffin doubled down on quality. Bob Tiffin challenged the company to build “automotive-quality” motorhomes delivered defect-free — a standard that became central to the Tiffin reputation.
Following the rebound of RV demand after 9/11, Tiffin expanded production, engineering, and sales operations to meet growing customer demand.
The company’s dedication to customer satisfaction earned widespread recognition, including the RV Dealers Association Quality Circle Award and numerous loyal customers who appreciated Tiffin’s hands-on approach to service and support.
One of the most unique aspects of Tiffin Motorhomes has always been its accessibility. Customers knew they could call Red Bay directly and often speak with someone who genuinely cared — sometimes even Bob Tiffin himself. That personal connection became a defining part of the Tiffin experience.
Over the years, Tiffin introduced a diverse lineup of coaches designed to serve a wide range of RV lifestyles. Some of the company’s most notable models include:
This broad lineup allowed Tiffin to serve both first-time RV owners and experienced luxury travelers alike.

In December 2020, Tiffin Motorhomes entered a new era when Thor Industries acquired the company. While the acquisition brought access to greater resources and expanded capabilities, Tiffin maintained its headquarters in Red Bay, Alabama, and preserved the family-oriented culture customers had come to love.
The Tiffin family continued to play a major role in company operations, ensuring the same customer-first philosophy remained at the heart of the brand.

Beyond the innovations and awards, Tiffin’s true legacy lies in its people. Generations of employees and family members have helped shape the company into what it is today. The culture in Red Bay reflects the values Bob Tiffin established decades ago: integrity, hard work, craftsmanship, and treating customers like family.
As of 2026, Tiffin Motorhomes has placed more than 90,000 RVs on the road since the company’s founding in 1972.
From groundbreaking innovations like the first triple-slide motorhome to a reputation for industry-leading customer service, Tiffin’s impact on the RV industry is undeniable. Yet through all the growth and change, the company has remained true to its roots — building quality coaches with pride, passion, and a commitment to the people who drive them.
Today, Tiffin Motorhomes continues to look toward the future while honoring the legacy that made the brand iconic. For thousands of RV owners across the country, Tiffin represents more than a motorhome — it represents a tradition of adventure, trust, and family.
